Hello internet people and welcome to my virtual abode!
If you are on my about page, you must be trying to figure out who this person is and what this site is all about.
Well I guess this is my cue to start talking about myself, which I have never been very good at, so bare with me…
I guess I’ll start with my identity. My government name is David Kevin Saxton but most people call me Dave or Daz. Sometimes people may refer to me as the one arm bastard — and sometimes — those people are right.
Currently I reside in the coal baron lands of north eastern Pennsylvania, in a little old coal city named Wilkes-Barre. At one point in my life I lived in Savannah, Ga to attend college at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) where I received a B.F.A in graphic design.
As an Artist:
As an artist I like to create political pop art to illustrate my own social commentary of the world around us. I like to reference my own style of artwork as a modern Dadaist. To stay true to my influence of Dadaism I use many classic techniques of collage, photo-montage, and assemblage — using multiple tools such as stencils, spray paint, acrylic paint, silk screens, computer generated images, plastic toys, and even recycled garbage.
As the great George Baroque said, “Art is meant to disturb.” This is a mantra for me, and I hope that all the art I create will encourage the viewer to think. I’m not interested in creating generic landscapes or pictures that are aesthetically pleasing. I want to illustrate the world as I see it through my eyes – sometimes rebelling with imagery, and sometimes absorbing the beauty that lies next to me.
I enjoy supporting fellow artists as much as possible. I love attending any events, galleries, and shows, ranging from MOMA in NYC to the little local artist openings at coffee shops. If you are a fellow artist, please contact me; I’d love to check out your art or even attend a show so I can blog about it.
Most of my political pop art is available for prints at www.Zazzle.com/DKSaxton.
Miscellaneous Stuff:
I consider myself an outdoorsmen. I love being outside where there are no walls around me. When there is nice weather you can find me running around local trails, or sitting around a campfire sipping whiskey and telling silly stories. I absolutely love learning about all types of history, especially military history, art history, and American history. I’m a firm believer in positive energy and try to project as much of that as possible. I try to surround myself with positive people, negative people are just too much of a drag (cue the SNL Debbie Downer video).
I’m also involved with the political scene, from going to college hosted lectures to participating in charitable events and going to national conferences.
Professional Career as a Graphic Designer:
After graduating in 2008, I worked as a full time design specialist with the company Pepperjam Internet Marketing Agency (a ebay company) for three years. Gaining experience working with multiple different companies and brands dealing with online advertisements that range from web banners to landing pages. Which allowed me to gather important experience in a high-speed deadline driven environment.
Currently I’m focusing on helping small businesses create a strong online presences, to help reach a bigger demographic.
